Who is the fictional character you relate to the most?
This is an easy one! Edmond Dantes, from my favorite book as a teenager, “The Count of Monte Cristo.”
Alexandre Dumas’ book has been adapted for the screen numerous times, but I have not watched one. Although I have my teenage memory — I read the book at 17 years of age —of The Count of Monte Cristo, one of the aliases Edmond adopts, I reread the book at 57 years of age and created new memories. Nonetheless, it still remains one of my favorite books of all time, though now I see more in the story than a simple story of revenge. It is a life-altering story for Edmond, a story of crime and punishment, of lost innocence, of second chances, of reinventing oneself.
It would be great to be able to time travel and meet that 17-year-old, to let him know that it all worked out, and that I have outlived our archenemy!
